When Can Knowledge-based Systems Be Called Agents?

چکیده
Distributed Artiicial Intelligence (DAI) has become an established research domain in recent years. As opposed to classical AI approaches, where the metaphor of intelligence is based on an individual human behaviour and the emphasis is put on knowledge representation and inference methods, the metaphor used in DAI is based on social behaviour, and its emphasis is put on actions and interactions. An "intelligent" social behaviour can arise either in the case of coarse-grained "intelligent" members of the society (called cognitive agents) or in the case of ne-grained "unintelligent" members of the society (called reactive agents). Interests in this eld may be divided into two major areas: Distributed Problem Solving (DPS) and Multi-Agent Systems (MAS). One can consider the DPS approach as one phase of the MAS approach. In either of these areas, the entities are called agents, and not knowledge-based systems as in classical AI approaches. The goal of this paper is to put together some ideas and deenitions of the MAS eld, and to give some answers to the question "When can knowledge-based systems be called agents?". To illustrate, we will use as an example a model of a cognitive agent being currently developed at the LIFIA which deals with connicting data.

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents
Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....
متن کاملModeling Lateral Communication in Holonic Multi Agent Systems
Agents, in a multi agent system, communicate with each other through the process of exchanging messages which is called dialogue. Multi agent organization is generally used to optimize agents’ communications. Holonic organization demonstrates a self-similar recursive and hierarchical structure in which each holon may include some other holons. In a holonic system, lateral communication occurs b...
متن کاملUrban Vegetation Recognition Based on the Decision Level Fusion of Hyperspectral and Lidar Data
Introduction: Information about vegetation cover and their health has always been interesting to ecologists due to its importance in terms of habitat, energy production and other important characteristics of plants on the earth planet. Nowadays, developments in remote sensing technologies caused more remotely sensed data accessible to researchers. The combination of these data improves the obje...
متن کاملOnline Fault Detection and Isolation Method Based on Belief Rule Base for Industrial Gas Turbines
Real time and accurate fault detection has attracted an increasing attention with a growing demand for higher operational efficiency and safety of industrial gas turbines as complex engineering systems. Current methods based on condition monitoring data have drawbacks in using both expert knowledge and quantitative information for detecting faults. On account of this reason, this paper proposes...
